Low vibration diesel generator and low speed single cylinder diesel engines are commonly accepted engines in the industry. However, there is another kind of engine named- water cooled engine having cylinder head gasket that is required to carry out different functions at a time during operation. Cylinder head gasket is one of the most integral parts of the water cooled engine system. It is used for sealing the cylinder head and block of a diesel engine.
When a manufacturer assembles an engine, head gasket becomes an essential component of the engine assembly. Gasket supports the engine cylinder head along with its other operating components. Water cooled engine cylinder head must be able to perform under dynamic and thermal forces which are conveyed from the block and head. The design of cylinder head gasket is depend on the type of engine application. Each application needs a specific cylinder head gasket layout to cope up with engine performance. The materials used for fabricating Water Cooled Engine Head gasket are:
There are many things to consider for preventing Water Cooled Engine Head gasket failures:
Overheating of Engine
Auto engine are usually designed to withstand normal temperature range (190-220° F). If the engine temperature exceeds or overheats, the coolant can boil out of the radiator, Pistons can scuff or seize inside their cylinder. Cylinder head can crack, valve stems can swell and scuff or seize. You need to take care of temperature of Water Cooled Engine Head to avoid all these issues.
Air pocket damage
Hot spots usually caused by air in the engine cooling system. Air pockets can be formed while refilling the cooling system or while repairing. If air will be trapped in the block or head of water cooled engine cylinder, it may cause hot spots and damage to the engine. Hence, it is necessary to eliminate air trapping while changing coolant or repairing the engine.
Other important things that you need to check to ensure proper working of Cast Iron Castings:
- Various grades of steel and S.S. materials.
- Composite fiber based materials
- Graphite in distinct proportion
- Silicone, resins and other chemical formulations
